ADULTS DIE – AND – KIDS CRY FOR!!
Have you ever seen a kid running around and doing things when you ask them to do something. For example, if you request them to get you glass of water, you can see them getting half full and slightly tilted glass of water ( many a times water tripping on the ground) and running towards you. When you take that glass of water and say “WELL DONE” they feel so proud. Have you ever seen there sparkling eyes with a sense of achievement and feeling of pride that they have done something GRAND for their parents. This is what is called MOTIVATION or APPRECIATION!! Adults die for and kids cry for
I must profess that this is one thing we all are deficient of badly. I don’t know why we hide our emotions to appreciate or Motivate others whenever there is an opportunity.
Each of one us are roaming around with an invisible placard on our chest which says “ MOTIVATE ME”. This is a universal truth but unfortunately we in the corporate world have recognised this as a “Managerial Skill”. I am disagreeing with this, as I strongly believe that motivation is an inside outside approach and it is a “HABIT” not a “Managerial SKILL”
If we only motivate our subordinates when they achieve their KRAs, and don’t motivate our spouse or our parents, then we should be called a humbug. These are called empty talks which has no power because we are behaving differently in two same situations. We say something and do something. Our audio is not congruent to our video. We are not walking the talk.
As a leader in the organization if we want to percolate a culture of motivation and appreciation, we should be the one to lead it. When we enter the office – we should remember to motivate the security guard for doing great job in manning our office efficiently, say great words to receptionist who manages our call and visitors, say encouraging words the those housekeeping staff who make sure that our seating area is clean when we arrive. Only then we have a right to tell our subordinates that they should motivate their teams.
Motivate and Appreciation needs to come from our heart and our eyes should do speaking. This will have a magnetic effect on other teams and people around you. It should be an instant response of our body and mind. It should not require prompting. There are thousand of opportunities to motivate every single person around us every minute – remember “EVERY PERONS AROUND US HAVE THAT INVISIBLE PLACARD” that says “ MOTIVATE ME”
